Yet Another ML 3rd Row Seat Thread

I just installed the third row seats in my 00 ML320. They are a great addition, eveyone should have them since they are so easy to remove. But....does anyone have suggestions or experience on adapting the passenger side 2nd row flip up seat that the later MLs have????

Flip up?

I'm not quite understand what do you mean by adapting the flip up seat?

If I think I know what you mean then, I don't believe anyone would have that experience, since that will have be install at the time the car is build and only comes with ML that have third row seat when order.

Flip up or Tilt up

Yes, that is what I mean, on the factory optioned MLs with 3rd row seating, the 2nd row seat not only folds down for a flat cargo floor, they can be tilted up one additional step to expose the true floor of the vehicle - allowing for ease of entry into the 3rd row. I have seen the mechanism on the factory optioned MLs. On the non-optioned ones, like mine, the 2nd row seat is attached to the vehicle with a solid bar that slides fore and aft to allow for the seat to move 2 inches. With the factory optioned MLs, that solid bar is replaced with a latch-mechanism. That is certainly one difference. Perhaps it would require replacement of the entire 2nd row seat mounting mechanisms.

It'll take a of money and efford to have that install in your ML. The mechanism is not as sample. On my I do have the factory 3rd row seat option and it looks quite complicated. Some body and frame work might be required and I don't think anyone would likily to accept the job. Good Luck!!

ps. I let my daughter access the 3rd seat from trunk for easier access and less time consuming.

I think you'd have to get parts from a breaker - my car has the folding seat as factory fit. I think the MB seat frame parts would be expensive, but I think the whole job would be bolt in (if you've got the funny 'star' drive socket to take them out.....)

1997 Turbocharged Toyota Camry Showcar, and my new 2000 Lexus GS400
Just out of sheer morbid curiosity, can some one post a pic of the 3rd row of seats. I know that in the back seat of my dads ML is kinda cramped (im 6'2"), and there isnt a great deal of room behind that seat to incorporate another seat. So if someone can show me what this looks like it would be great.
