Windshield washer bottle replacement

The windshield washer bottle on my 98 ML320 is leaking. Does anyone here know how to replace it, i.e., are there are tricks to it? It looks fairly simple but I thought I'd check here first. Thanks in advance!

I have the same question.

I unplugged all of the sensors (3) and removed one bolt but the thing still won't come out. It seems that something is hold it on the bottom.

Anyone know how to remove it? any DIY links?

If you are doing this w/ the new reservoir, please take pictures so the rest of us know what's involved. Sadly, mine has developed the same issue :-P

Changed mine out a few years back. Originally i just removed the old one..epoxied it and it held up for a couple of years. Once it started leaking again I just decided to replace it.

The replacement is a larger tank and will take an hour or two (generally a six pack ) and you must be careful. The electronics box must be loosened and lifted out of the way to squeeze the new reservoir in and then reinstalled. Really not that big of a deal, just be careful.

By the way, the original and new tank rest in rubber grommets that over time can get pretty tight. A shot of diswashing liquid or similar around the grommet will help loosen it up and allow you to remove it. I found it easier to remove the washer pumps first and of course siphon off the fluid first ....

Well, I unhooked all of the sensors (3 of them I believe) and removed one screw.

Bottom of the tank seems to be stuck and it just won't budge. I can wiggle the tank around but it won't come out.

Am I supposed to pull it straight up?

How much did the new container cost? I checked w/ a local dealer and they said the part was $140!

Washer Reservoir

Redesigned part is 1638601160. The lowest price I found was at www.worldimpex.com (their sku 275248). Price in August 2006 was $85 plus $8.95 for shipping. When you consider the part (and price) includes 2 new pumps, the price doesn't seem as unreasonable as it did at first glance when you think it is only a plastic tank. The new part is larger and the seam is in a somewhat different place. I removed the headlamp assembly (don't recall if that was really necessary) but unfortunately moving the e-box is required to get this larger reservoir in. I suspect you can put the small old design in without this hassle but why would anyone do that since the old part seems to leak more often than not?

If you haven't replaced your e-box fan yet, now would be the time to do it.

Ahh...makes sense if it includes the pumps. I thought it was just the container and thought they were nuts. Any other tips on removing the e-box? Guess I can swap in the new e-box fan w/ the better bearings while I'm at it...
