Staggered wheels??

I was wondering if anyone has fit staggered wheels to there truck. A friend of mine is selling a nice set of 20s off of a CL and I am interested in them. I wnt to know if itwill affect the all wheel drive system or braking. Thanks

If by staggered you mean different F/R overall wheel diameter it's really not advisable, even if you stay within the 16-18 inch OEM wheel diameter range. The reason is because no one here or on any other ML forum has posted the limit F/R wheel diameter difference that will cause problems with either the ABS, BAS or traction control system. So, stay away until you find definitive proof that it'll work.

On the other hand, if by staggered you mean same or near same F/R overall wheel diameter but with different wheel widths (usually R wider than F), then the only problem is to make sure the tires fit the wheel well without scrubbing. My advice is to keep overall F/R wheel diameters OEM or as close to OEM as possible and you'll be OK. If you don't like that, then keep F/R overall diameter the same otherwise you could have problems with the ABS/BAS/Traction control system since these systems function based on the dynamic rates of the F/R wheels.

Now, regarding the wheels from the CL, make sure the load range is appropriate for the ML. Don't know where or how you drive your truck, but having a set of wheels that can't support the entire loading range of the ML is taking a risk I'd not advice, even if I think I'll never get to maxing out the ML, weightwise. Just a safety thought!

I use a staggered setup. 0 problems with any of the systems. Had the dealer check it, stagger caused no problems or error codes. Just stay as close as possible to the same diameter, back and front. Since tires can be mounted on a range of rim sizes, I use 20x9 and 20x10s front and back with 275/45/20s all around but I could use 265/45/20 front and 295/40/20 rear or if I wanted more time 265/50/20 front and 295/45/20 rear. Both setups are within .3 of the same diameter front and rear. I wouldnt go beyond that, to be on the safe side. Those CL rims are fine but you may need spacers, im not sure of the CL's offset. Theres no way OEM MB wheels are going to fail from overloading unless you strapped a yacht to the roof.
