DVD Navigation Help

2005 ML 500

DVD navigation system (MCS) isnt working (keeps locking up, pausing, cant locate vehicle, etc).

Dealer says I need a "new Processor" for, but that they dont just sell the "processor" I have to buy a whole new MCS for $2200.

Sounds a bit HIGH to me.

two questions:

1. Ive seen that people ADD navigation to MCS systems that didnt previously have them? Can I buy that unit?

2. Anybody know of another source for the MCS other than the dealer?

Thanks!

You can change out the nav unit easily by pulling MCS out and just replacing the nav portion. Ebay has units, just make sure you get late DVD unit 2002-2005. Should be less than $500 (easily) and takes about 25 minutes to change out.

I'd try this first...

Get a new antenna. It sounds like you are getting an intermittent signal. The antenna has some electronics in it that eventually get wet. I had similar problems and got a new antenna on eBay for $200. It was a pain to install due to the interior panels that need to be shifted to get access. That was about 5 years ago and it is starting to do the same thing. I think I'm going to coat the next one in some type of conformal coating designed for electronics. I remember the first one I pulled, it had a lot of corrosion. If the antenna doesn't fix the problem it was likely to be a problem in the future.
