Transmission Fluid
With the end result in mind. To check and top off the transmission fluid I have a few questions. The car is a 2001 Mercedes Benz ML320:
What transmission is in the car? I've checked the owner's manual, but i can't find it listed.
What transmission does this car have?
What dipstick would it take to read the fluid level. Check on ebay and they have a dipstick for about $23, but don't know if it's the right one.
How to go about checking the level? How is the level read? Does the engine have to be running, does it have to be warmed up, does it have to be in drive?
The transmission appears to have a dipstick tube, but it's capped off with a plastic cap. Do I twist it off with a pair of vice grips? After the cap is off, and the level is checked, what goes in its place?
Thanks in advance - Rich
You can take your choice of anyone on ebay. When you receive the tool and check the fluid, insert it as far down as possible and when it hits bottom the tool will have about 8" left exposed on the top. This is correct and do not try to shove the tool in the rest of the way.
