SP9000s are ok up to at least 85 when it's dry but they really, really suck in 6 inches of wet Southwest clay since they don't shed well and end up packing up something fierce.

Wow, these are the first pictures I've seen of real people taking these vehicles off-road. Seems almost like a foreign concept, so actually use the 4WD system. Awesome!

I'm just wondering how to clean those cars that have been used for offroad... I think it will take hours :)

HAHAHA. The Mercedes ML 4WD is a really good 4WD, its got all the great gizmos like esp 4ETS ect... but the only problem we found with the ML was the ground clearence. only if they put big desert dueler tyres and raised the suspension travel it will be a great Offroader. and bigest mistake was those sidesteps, they rob you of ground clearence.

But if mercedes did this then the Ml wouldnt not be able to cope with the german autobahns and will be unsafe a high speeds.

yes they are the rs-3's. i like them a lot, sporty but not as "bling bling" as some of the others...

ride's a little rougher but it could be from the new springs and struts...

My '98 makeover...
 

Just (a few weeks ago) did a mid-life makeover on my '98. it already had 18" Lorinser RS-3s w/ Yok 285/50 AVS/ST and Remus exhaust. I had the bumpers, flares & rockers painted out, added ML 55 grille, bi-xenons, 2003 taillights, new bumper guard, chrome bits, Bilstein shocks. Hella FF200 chromes & rear hatch filler panel coming.

I actually agree that a clear bra, like I have on my A6 4.2 sport looks better. However, when I got the ML500 it was winter and cold. I also had to dribe on sanded roads. The only quick solution was this black plastic thing :mad:

Now that I have it I'm not going to throw it out. I have actually gotten used to it and it sure looks different from other ML500s :zoom:

This is current setup before i go full RENNTech coilovers in the future:

H&R Springs (for lowering)
KYB Shocks
RENNTech Rear Swaybar (for a lot less bodyroll)

RENNTech? Wow....that should be pretty pricey. I read that they relocate the mounting points which means cutting the old mounts and welding new ones on. If the springs are cut, the ride must be pretty bad. I have new Bilstein HDs on H&R springs and the ride is a bit stiff.

the ride is ok... yes its a bit stiffer, but since i put the RENNTech swaybar, the rebounding hasnt been bad at all. Im thnking of switching to Bilstein shocks....whats the part number on yours?

i was trying to sell it but it seems I cant get what i want for it so I might as well keep my ML!!! I love my ML anyways.....given me no problems, always ran strong and good, big + in the big pimpin sector, and pretty quick for an SUV.

Also, RENNTech uses Koni adjustable shocks and Eibach Coilovers... but now they dont use the Koni shocks no more... they switched to some other company thats in Germany thats better then Koni!!!

I don't remember the part #s. Bilstein only has 1 part # for the front and 1 for the rears now. In the past, they made 2 versions of the rear shock. Now only the one.

I am waiting for H&R to release their sway bar kit. It is still TBA.

the RENNTech rear swaybar had done me good so far..... i am very satisfied... you should look into it!!!

I'm going to remove the extra headlights, add a roof spoiler at the back, get a newer front spoiler (from a later model or AMG or brabus), get 19", paint the grill in the same color as the car, buy a pair of bi-xenon headlights and add some kind of dvd-entertaintment system.

Here are the air horns I had installed, they are Hella also I believe. Compressor is there in the left hand side of the pic. These puppies are loud!

Also had 35% tint on the front windows. Pic quality is low...only have a Sony Digital Handycam. :mad:

Ian B - Very nice vehicles. I use to autocross and rally a Subie RS. Sometimes I wish I had kept the car, but at the time I was traveling on unpaved and sometimes unplowed roads with a foot or more of snow. 8 inches of ground clearance doesn't cut it so I went back to a Range Rover with over 10 inches just under the pumkins. Mine are the chrome case version, part no. 74220 (each). I had to modify the mount slightly to work with the factory grille guard which has threaded holes in the rear:

Two 5.6 inch monitors professionally installed into the headrest for rear passengers, the DVD player is in the glove box for easy acces.
20" Giovanna Genoa's are optional. I lowered the car about 3" with HR springs and Bilstien front shocks. Returning everything to stock form is easy if the buyer wants me to. LOW miles only about 33,000 mile right now. Asing price is $32,000/without the wheels. $34,000 with the wheels. Thank you.

Thats tight! How did H&R give you a 3" drop , did you modify them ? Also do the Bilsteins firm up the front end alot ? I notice the ride in the front gets softer when you lower these.

I had to special order the springs from H&R. The ride is not too bad over smooth serfaces, but when the road gets rough you can really feel it, but it handles a whole lot better though.

How much did you pay for the springs and shocks? I just want to lower my truck. Did you have to get the shocks as well or did you just chose to opt for them? How many miles did you put on those 20"? I might be interested.

I paid about $450 for the springs and the shocks were about $400 dollars for the fronts. The wheels were taken off in the winter time and I believe that there is only about 3-4 thousand miles on them. The inside of the wheels were cleaned before i put them away to remove all of the brake dust that was in there. If you want I can get a picture of the wheels. They are very clean almost like brand new.

They seem to only have springs for the 320 and 430 500 models not the 55 AMG, did you get those and just swap them out or did you get ones that are actually made for the AMG model? And what the hell is the difference between a flat and round spring??? And supposedly they only drop the car about 1.5" where did you find the ones that drop it three inches?? Finally did you have any clearance issues with the drop and the rims?? Thanks (amg8451) - and send me some pics of those rims- thanks

My 00 ML had flat spring ends on bottem , yet my 01 had round spring ends on bottem . You gotta climb underneith the back of your truck and look at the bottem of the spring. I never saw a 3" drop spring before either . I have a 3" drop but my mechanic took a coil off , surprisingly mines drives super smooth , better than it did stock . I run Eibachs , I've heard the H&Rs are rough. :zoom:

I've had this truck since new and I didnt know that there arent springs in the front until friday when they jacked my truck up to do an estimate on straight pipes. Kinda werid huh.

We're aiming for April30th , Hot Import Nights Boston! I got alot of goodies going on the BMW still to be installed after it gets out of the body shop. 14" Brembo grand Tourismos , Remus exhaust and some interior work. I'm crossing my fingers!


I havn't yet , I heard the Bilsteins are a good upgrade to firm it up. These trucks like any truck with torsion bars get a softer ride when you loosen the torsion bar keys (aka: lower it) and get a harder ride when you tighten the torsion keys.(aka raise it). I think once I put some bigger rims on it , it will be more noticeable.

AMG55, how did you get 420+ hp out of your ride. I am wanting to boost the HP up also. If I do not sell the car then I want to get a S/C for it. I am going to take it to the track this weekend and I want to see want kind of number this thing will post in the 1/4 mile. I live in Denver, Co so I am hoping that the elevation does not make this thing too slow. Also thanks Bimmer 9938.

I've NEVER heard that , especially since its not even a cold air intake let alone, not even one equipt with a heat sheild.

The warm air your engine is sucking in , is actually making your car slower than it would with the factory air box. The warm air is less dense and dosn't combust as well. :nix:

I had "cold air" intake with a heat shield and a longer tube mounted away from the engine. It didn’t even come close to the power I get with the setup I have now. One rainy day in NYC water kept getting up into the filter cutting off all air supply, choking the car, while I was driving almost stalling out. There's even a little slot in the fender where the stock air box got some of its air from I had it mounted close to there and it sucked less air and the sound was so weak! This set up is probably the best. I think. I also tied some of the flaps in the engine bay down by the bumper to create a craves where plenty of air gets through bumper and grill. :y

This car is Soooooo quick, it gets to 60 in about 6.4 seconds.. ( will run head 2 head with a 330i =O) and the engine sounds like a really pissed off dog growling at you, its not engine noise, its music. For a car this size the handling is superb. I just love it. I took it out to Jones Beach this past weekend, to "test her out" and got to around 105mph with a TON of grunt still and the rear of my finger tips, this thing does not stop going, has power way past 130.. I honestly I am incredibly happy with this car, I hope you guys like it too =D

Clear 2005 ML 350 bug deflectors
 

I noticed from the pics that some of you guys have the clear bug deflectors. Where did you guys get them and how are they installed. Does it require drilling or permanent modification to the hood? I have a 2005 ML 350 looking for a clear hood deflector. I live in Miami and travel alligator alley a lot -- damn bugs takes a beating on my hood every trip along with the rocks. By the way, nice pics guys. Thanks.

Have you thought about just getting 3M clear coat for the front and mirrors?

I have that on my Audi and, after 4 years, it still looks good. No yellowing or fading. It does a great job of protecting the paint from stone chips.

I have it on the lights, front paint, mirrors and where the fenders are exposed.

You need to have it professionally installed. :y

I have heard some people absolutely love it but some say the installation is the key and that if not done properly, can be permanent hassel and a sore on cosmesis. How much did your installation cost? I live in Miami and most likely have to find a reputable installer to do the job. At least if I don't like the shield, I can take it off.

I have a clear bugshield, very easy to install... I detached my front grill so I could get a TIGHT fit. on a 1-10 scale its maybe a 2 at most...

I assume it is affixed with 3M adhesive, correct?

yes but it also uses the buttons that hold in the bonnet's(hood) insulation

May I ask where and how much? I tried a few sites but was able to find one with the clear shield available for 2005 ML 350.

Its is stock and dirty (i have to clean it!)
But it does have new 255/65R 16 Michelin tires on it.
and a dive flag sticker which is pretty cool if you ask me.

I am going to be putting 2 subs in the back in an enclosure. i think 2 12" ones in a QPower 10" Dual Bandpass Enclosure w/Plexiglass Cover with some blue lights in it. Also some LEDs under the seats(infron of you so the floor infront of you glows) and so the pedals glow. and hopefully i'll get some new pedals so they look nice.

I just updated the rims & tires. Below are the after and before pics. Next project: lower a couple of inches and put on the rear wing. I'll take any advice you have for lowering. I've seen some very nicely done ones here - AMG8451's very nicely lowered with the 20" Giovanna Genoa's. Did you lower the fronts with the torsion bars or was it just done using trick the Bilsteins? Also, I checked the TireRack for H&R and it seems like they don't have anything for the 500. They have for both the 350 and 55 (and 320) but nothing for the 500. H&R's web site does show something for the 500 though. Do I have to special order from H&R?

Hi Guys Here is my ML 320 that I bought used . It s 5 years old and is in great shape only 63000 km on the odometer it had the benz 17" alus and on the same day I bought it I had to put on 19" chrome alu´s with michelin 275 wide tires and still had some more things I want and need to add like the aux heater for the winter as I will be using it all year around.

No, that doesn't look right. It's a cross between a 430 sport and a 55. The hood and front bumper are from the ML55. However, the rims are from a ML320 or base 350. Those are not even original ML430 rims. I think someone played one on you. Do you mind posting pics of the rear and interior?

how do u like the sunroof deflector? does it really reduce wind noise?

It is good till u get up to 160Km/h. After that it is useless, but since here in Toronto, cops are a dime a dozen, very rarely you go over that speed.:zoom:

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here, the forum looks good so I thought I would say hello and show you my ML500, I have owned her for about a year, I bought her for my girlfriend as we have a lot of kids and the car had seven seats, if we had less kids then we would have gone for the ML55... mmm....

Anyhow here it is, fully loaded ex Mercedes car with Family pack, Luxury Pack, Entertainment pack, and AMG kit. I have since put an AMG badge on the back, other than that it is as I bought her.

I am interested in boosting the power a bit though as I would like her to go a little faster so if anybody has any tuning tips please tell...

My true love is my Lancia integrale which is under constant resto, ten years and maybe only three with her going well.... thats love (and debt).

Big Mercedes fan though so please dont hold the Lancia thing against me:smash:

Thats a beautiful looking car, there was a fully blown Brabus near where I used to live owned by a lottery winner with a very trick number plate, looked just like your car, used to stand out more than the Porshes and ferraris in my eyes, she now has the new model, not as nice looking imo. The AMG's look brilliant but dont have the wow factor of the Brabus.

Beautiful car.... saying that I am quite drawn to the new ML63, have to wait for my lotto numbers to come up for that one though... I saw three ML63's the other day when I was up at Gleneagles Hotel, must be the new 'to have car'.. mmmm...... yes please!!

i think i saw the ml with the off road BRABUS package you are talking about on this web-site....the person was from Scotland and the car looked identical to mine. My car was already prepared by BRABUS in New Port Beach, California, when the car dealer, Fletcher Jones, got it from them and they put it in their showroom. i can't believe i leased it right out of the showroom but, i didn't like the s-class looks, or the e-class and the m-class looked unattractive. but this BRABUS made me lose my control.....i had to have it and i'm not a bit sorry i did it. In january i will buy it.....and yes, i need to hit the lottery too..... this car is expensive but there's only 4 in the USA for '03
(according the BRABUS) so that kind of makes it worth it. thanks for your comments...

ML270 with custom rear spoiler, OEM ext. wheel carrier, OEM side steps, OEM 3rd row seats, Reece towbar, TJM allow bull bar, custom sand board (now dinted due to high-speed sand ditch mishap... Now designing MkII!!!!), '07 Kenwood DDX AV unit + reverse camera (HDTV, nav & bluetooth modules ordered!), Hella driving lights, upgraded suspension with King HD springs, WAECO fridge, long range aux fuel tank (ordered). Now looking at either remapping the ECU or upgrading turbo/exhaust!

For the Fraser Island trip , expecting rough terrain, I shod the ML with Goodyear ATRs. The ML performed admirably and outgunned the many Prados and Landcruisers in the deeply rutted soft sand and in the rough & tumble hilly bits, in the comfort of a luxo 4wd!

Gripes however, are as follows:
- No flexible mudflaps are available. The OEM moulded one suck. I'm looking at a custom flexi set (F&R).
- The OEM brackets for the side steps are basic and haven't been designed for offroad abuse. I'll get replacement ones from TJM/ARB that have a shallower profile that won't snag.

Hi Folks, here is my ML350. Its a 2004 with dvd sat-nav, electric heated seats and electric folding mirrors. Its done just 25000 miles and was previously owned by Daimler Chrysler. The colour is tealite blue.:D

The ML looks in good condition. Any issues with the Skyview.? I'm planning to get a 01 ML430. However the skyview does not open and I want to know if you have experience any problems and how you fix it.

My skyview works perfect. There has never been any issues with it, i suggest you take that to a dealer, it's probably the motor of it. but i think you can manually open it and close it, but that's just the hard way. the only problem i have with the sky view is wind noise. gonig about 50mph is ok, but then going like 55+ is just noisy, but with loud music, you can cure that. Skyview is perfect during the summer. so yah, goodluck on your buy.:zoom:

no i never sold the bumper yet, it's too costly to ship yet some people local have been interested but the schedule is just so tight.

the front bumper i have is an expressions kit made in Belgium. if you're interested i'll let you know where you can get them.

:y Man that looks Hot! what HP numbers are you pushing and is that a Kleemann Stage4 Package? Who make your cold air kit?

This is a stage 3 Kleemann with SC, ECU, and Headers. Mine has free flowing exhaust, and Intake, so I take it between 3 and 4. The intake is BMC CDA.

I got tired of the ML50k package and now i'm in the process of upgrading my engine to the AMG 55 model.

I should be pushing 580hp when i'm done, and 1/4 at least 13 flat, and 0-60 under 5 sec.

Will take more photos when it's done.

Found some 17" ML430 Wheels on Craigslist and got them installed today

Recently had the rear shocks/struts replaced.. put on slotted and drilled rotors with ceramic pads... new fuel pump... and new Dash...

basic picture, taken on a cell phone. i'm plannin' to take some real pictures tomorrow or on sunday so i'll post 'em up.

as of now:

- 6000k HID high beams
- 8000k HID low beams
- 12000k HID custom foglights
- 5% front driver/passenger tint
- 0% tint everywhere else
- replaced factory ml320 grille with ml500 grille
- completely smoked taillights
- lightly smoked headlights

basic mods as of now, gettin' black mercedes benz rims + winter tires ( i live in alaska ) and some interior upgrades are to follow.

Why do you want your lights to have different color temperatures? It looks better when they all match, IMO.

it's 'cause i live in alaska, ha. 8000k's are useless in rain, the 6000k's are for the snow, and the 12000k's are for when it's rainin' and snowin' at the same time. a lot of people of here have their HID's set to different color temperatures 'cause honestly the weather here sucks sometimes. i use to have 8000k as my highs/lows/fogs and i couldn't see squat on the road sometimes.

Picked up an 03 ML320
 

I finally found an ML that I liked! This 2003 ML320 has some miles but was well taken car of. It has all the features that I wanted. The photo is one the seller had - the snow is such around here that a clean car is just not possible. :D Now the work begins. There are a few minor chips to fix, but the right front wheel is severely "curbed". It'll be a work in progress - when I get the paint sorted out and get the car presentable, I'll post an updated photo. I'm just excited to finally get an ML for a daily driver!!

Bone stock 2003. I'm going with a G next, the new ML are too aerodynamic looking for me. Also, I am so picky about rims that I just gave up looking and stuck with the stock look. I like it. Wouldn't mind getting some nerf bars + chrome pushbar with some good lights.

Mines a matte black ml that was completely covered in plasti dip, w164 style grille also plasti dipped, goodridge ss brake lines, led license plate bulbs, upgraded tail and signal bulbs, an endless list of to dos but currently I have fitted 19" brabus monoblock 2's 285-45-19 rear 255-50-19 front, brake performance slotted n dimpled rotors with Hawk pads, royal purple oil in every hole, deleted 2nd cats, brabus Burl gauge surround Burl seat switches and Burl grab handles, alcantara pillars, magnaflow twin exhaust canted sideways like corrado and 928's( actually 2x maganflow mufflers total, true iridium plugs, dinoc back sail panels, full brabus suspension yet to be installed(blah what a job those rears will be, awaiting also poly bushings to replace stock) brabus engine cover, currently building stock of a makeshift brabus 3.8s kit and if anyone can help with new rods and bearings as well as pistons thatd be great. Blacked out lights, hid 8000k lights in aftermarket projector lights with halos, some brabus badging, aftermarket fogs, polished intake runners, currently using a diy cold air intake with aluminum heat shield but working on a carbon "box" but toying with a dual intake system like needswings style for crossfire, I know I'm missing a ton of others but there you go. I would like to post a pic so plz advise.
