Bumping this thread. Has anyone tried this booster plunger seal repair kit?

URO Parts Repair Kit 001 430 0708 for ATE Brake Booster Plunger Seal 03.7718-5028.1

R/R video from youtube:

I have hissing under the dash when I press the brake and a hard brake pedal after its down about half way.
My '97 R129 SL500 has an ATE booster and master cylinder so I was thinking of giving this a try.

Hey brucemid, have you tried this URO part seal? I bought it but haven't installed it yet. Just wondering if it's possible to do it without taking brake booster out of the vehicle..

How did you do it?

Bran,
Unfortunately I could not get enough information to be confident it was a direct fit to my booster. I ended up replacing the booster with a new one I bought from AutohauzAZ. Sorry I can't be of help. I can't imagine doing this job however without removing the booster. Please re-post to the thread with your outcome and learning!

Bruce

I was able to get the seal from my local re-builder who rebuilds and sells to Auto zone and others. When I was buying the seal he laughed and said" you are wasting your time that seal goes from inside the booster.to change it you have to open it up"I said ill take the $30 gamble..well he was right..the seal is installed from inside the booster..i went back and purchased the booster from him.

Your local re-builder hasnt kept up with progress, or he's blow'n smoke up your....
Not sure what type of seal you purchased, but here is the DIY part that is required to resolve the brake hiss.
And no requirement to disassemble the BB; it's installed from the outside.

Say, I'd like to know if your seal is still holding up? I was very disappointed when replacing the split seal on my '03 ML350's brake booster with this URO kit. The difference in pliability between the factory seal (soft) and the URO seal (hard) was concerning but I went ahead and installed it. Even with plenty of silicone lube, the seal resisted seating and eventually the outer ribs separated like O-rings rather than conform. Now I have no confidence in the seal and will replace the entire booster prior to an upcoming road trip. Don't know if my URO seal was typical or perhaps just old and dried-up?

This is the seal you want. It will cost $35 US which includes shipping. Contact them to see how long it will take to arrive. Photo of what you will receive in the mail.

Understand that the booster must be removed to install the seal correctly. Use the Uro installation video but using this seal.

HI Yes still good

Real pain in the bot to get it in, had to get rubber grease and then try to help it in with a dull screwdriver pushing the lips in, even then did not get it all the way in.
If I were to do it again I would rig up a simple base to hold the booster and a lever over the top to press the tube down or maybe use a proper press gently. It is as if the new seal is just a little too big to fit easily. But it did work,

Now for the stalling on accelerating .................grrrrrr

I confirmed it was the seal by pulling back the bellows cover and stopping the Hiss with my finger. Where can I buy just the seal?

The problem...I'm used to BMW parts where all you have to do is put the p/n in realoem.com where you can easily find the part.

But where can I find just the seal for the brake booster?
I don't think I can handle the expense of a brand new brake booster assembly. I did read on another thread somewhere where someone was able to buy just the seal only, but how?

If anyone can help me find the seal only I promise to document the fix with photos and make a DIY for this forum.
you can get a seal kit....brake booster seal kit on ebay....50 bucks..plus shipping..
i just bought one for my 02 ml320

Hello khomer2...was wondering if your ML320 fix for the hiss that you did a few years is still working? Would like my ML320 to be quiet again. Greetings from CA

Is the leak still sealed

When you first look at an untouched brake booster there is a white foam filter that surrounds the rubber boot next to the leaky booster seal. If you remove the white foam thing you will see holes cut out in the rubber boot.
This is where the brake booster 'breathes' in air when the pedal is depressed. I noticed it has trouble 'breathing' if the holes are covered up, so when you do the above fix make sure the plastic piece is skinny enough so it doesn't cover over the vent holes under the foam filter.

Basically just tighten the zip-ties around the booster seal and not the vent holes/ foam filter. The Zip- tie should be all the way down as close to the firewall/metal bracket as possible as shown in the photos above.
Hello paperplane94...Just wondering if your fix for the hiss is still working? I'd like to try it on my 2002 ML320, which just started hissing. THANKS
