1999 ML 320 Growl while turning slowly

Hi, The Oily Rag here, for the first time. I have a nice 99 ML 320 with only 192Kkms but it has this horrible low frequency "growl" while turning in a tight circle either way forward or reverse. I changed the center drive shaft bearing and noticed that the rear diff. drive pinion seal had been leaking for a long time. I replaced that and changed oil in the rear diff. Stiff the same sound. Any ideas?

This has been a know problem with 98-99. The transfer case is the cause of the noise, because they used a 50-50 ratio. The later years had a better ratio eliminating the noise.

Change you transfer case oil. Use the MB fluid, less tan two liters is enough.
