Fuel Pump Failing?

Fuel Pump Failing?
I have a 2000 ML320 with just short of 50K miles.
On a recent trip going over mountain passes in very hot weather (95+), I started having the engine lose power quite dramatically. After hesitating for awhile, it regained power, but it sure feels like a fuel delivery problem. It seems heat and altitude related. Is this the classic symptoms of the fuel pump problem?
The car is just about to get its last free service under warranty. Should I press them to replace it? I have a feeling that they'll require an outright failure, but I've got several long trips planned this summer and I really don't want it dead on a 100+ day in central Montana, five hundred miles from a MB dealer.

Very well may be fuel pump.
I would try to get it replaced. A pump may fail gradually. At least get the issue documented in case it should go out after warranty expiration.
