Unhappy When would I know when I need to get my brakes done?

Is there a way to see if I need my brakes done, without taking the wheel off and looking? I don't want to have it done knowing that I didn't need it.

Should I listen for squeaks?

An orange or yellow (I forget) Brake pad wear light should turn on in your instrument cluster when its time for brakes, that is if everything is working correctly.

Every few times I get in or out of the truck, I glance at a wheel to see if the edge of the pad is visible thru the spokes. If so, I hope to see the pad nearly as thick as the pad backing. If it isn't, I start thinking about replacing pads.
