Ottoscan OBD II scanner
I would be interested in hearing about experiences from anyone who has used this code scanner. Regular illumination of the 'Check Engine Light' on an ML prompts me to consider buying the instrument.
Thanks in advance.

Ron -- I've done no exhaustive research but found that the price at www.toolsource.com is lower by a few dollars.

Geoff,
It turns out that a buddy of mine who owns a Mercedes repair shop has the Baum Ottorscan. He rarely works on my Mercedes vehicle as I can do most things myself. He told me I can use his if I ever need to so there is really no need for me to buy one.
He said the tool is great for what it does, CEL functions only, and that it is very easy to use. He has some far more expensive diagnostic tools but they are probably out of the price range for a DIY'er.
The place you quoted did have a good price, better than Baum Tools at any rate. I would however get the tool from Baum as they can answers questions should a problem arise and offer support which to me anyway is important and worth paying a little extra. I spoke with Skip there and he is quite helpful. I bought tools from Baum before and they have always been helpful and well informed.
I might suggest to you to buy a Palm III off of ebay for very little to save some money and then get the software and cable from Baum. That's what I discussed with Skip and had planned on doing until I found out that my buddy has one.
Hope this helps.

Baum Ottoscan OBD II scanner
Ron -- thanks for your input. Your advice re buying from Baum is, no doubt, most appropriate. As much as I'd like to be able to justify the purchase of an analyzer to do more than the OBD II diagnostics, it makes sense to settle for the Palm-based tool. Living in a larger city, I'd be inclined to join an MB interest group and advocate for the group purchase of a more sophisticated instrument if it hadn't already been done.
Thank you again.
Geoff
