New brake shoes?

Is this even possible?

My wife just called me and said "A light was on and I called Mercedes 800 number and they said I need new brake shoes."

I'm thinking first... how the heck? It's a 2002 with only 20,000 miles on it. I used it the other day, and the brakes seemed fine.

Later on I was thinking about this again, and brake shoes?!?! Those are for drum brakes, which the ML does not have, it has disc's all around.

At anyrate, if it is new pad's that it needs, I still think this is rather absurd. Only 20,000 miles???

Of course they did. The warning light is just triggered by a sensor. There is still some pad life left. It wouldn't be a very good system if it warned you only when your pads were gone, would it?

20,000miles is pretty good! My wife can grind up a set of pads a lot sooner than that!

Angry Even worse .....

My brake light just went on last week for the 1st time . I brought the M in for front and rear pad replacment @ $700-800. ( I know ..I know ... I should be doin it myself ......). I get a call from the service rep that I NEED ROTORS !!! all around .... total is now @ $1600. Seem suspicious that the pad and rotors wore at the same time. I would at least expect a 2/1 ratio at worst. They are also now working on the Master cylinder under service contract. Anyone know who I could contact to argue my point the service rep. say a 1/1 ratio of pads to rotors on M class can be expected!!!
