Catalytic converter problem...

Hi guys, so I was driving home today and all of a sudden it sounded like the vehicle developed a hole in the exhaust manifold, got it home and got under it to find that the drivers side CAT has split at the seam where it is welded (the up stream seam)

My question is can I get this current CAT re-welded and keep going, or is that going to cause issues with the inners of the CAT.

If I have to replace it, can I just do one side?

Any input is much appreciated!

Broken but not bowed

My 2002 has a broken Cat. Luckily we were able to diagnose it after the inspection. My mechanic quoted $1500 for just one side. on the bright side he said we could drive it until we really needed to fix it. Every now and then there is a shudder of metal from under the truck but usually it's ok. Gas mileage has been affected I think.

If you find a shop that will weld it, it should be fine. I had mine done, but there was also a recall on the cats and mine were replaced with new years ago.
