Steering gear oil pump leak?
My ML350 is 8 years old, got it in Mai 2012 with 58500km, now 70900km.
I was recently being told that there is a leak of the power steering hydraulic oil pumps' shaft seal and that the entire pump shall be replaced. Cost over 1500US$ (have a privilege to live in France!)
The problem started few months ago when rattling noise appeared when the steering to extremely right or left side. The MB mechanic added hydraulic oil in the reservoir, rattling disappeared. Since now 3 months oil level is almost normal.
MB french head office said that this is an un-known defect and for this reason they can't bear the cost of replacement!
Did anyone of you heard about, oil pump seal leak defect?

Sooner or later the O-ring at the Power Steering reservoir will leak. It is extremely easy to replace. Jut follow the instructions in the pdf. with part numbers supplied.
After the repair, do not start the engine. Simply raise the two from wheels off the ground and perform the procedure as outlined in the pdf. until all the bubbles and air is eliminated.

I did read the pdf files, both are very useful but my ML350 is "sick" on the pump shaft seal, this is what MB technician said and added that the seal can't be changed! This is why I'm looking for a drawing to see if there is a possibility to change the seal only.
I'm keeping an eye on the leaks mentioned in the files.

gigi, just from the price they quoted you, one can see that they are trying to rip you off. Change the reservoir seal, which will cost you about $3-00 & enjoy your car.
