ML320 Remote Starter?

2001 ML320

Can I add a remote starter to this vehicle? I brought it intoday and I was told there are many complications with adding a remote starteror aftermarket keyless entry system, is this true? And If not any recommendations?

Thanks!

Its possible but very expensive... You need to have atleast two keys since for the remote starter to work, they leave one key in the car ignition.. So the system know that there is a key to start the car in the first place and then i would say get another key built and thats the expensive part (but you don't need to do it)because its over 300$. The reason i am telling you to get another key is incase you loose the key you're using and you cant use your second key because its in the ignition already. In all, its really complicated but if its a need... Then go ahead

Expensive or not depends on how you want to tackle the project: Do-it-yourself, or have a shop do it (if you can find a shop that will/can do it).

For remote start.
You will need a sacrifice key as lakshays mentioned. However, you don't have to and shouldn't cost you $300+. All you need is purchase a spare key from the dealer (AKA: "mickey mouse" key) and should cost less than $100. This looks like a regular car key with the plastic handle in the shape of Mickey Mouse. The $300+ key that lakshays mentioned is the switchblade style with Lock/Unlock buttons...don't buy this one. If you already have a spare 'mickey mouse' key then you're good to go.
You'll also need a bypass module: DEI 556UW. You would place the spare key inside this module, connect the wires to the ML's immobilizer antenna wire, connect the other wires to the remote start module and hide away the bypass module.

For Alarm and/or Keyless Entry systems.
You do not need a sacrifice key for this and it's less time consuming to install.

If you're a hands-on person, aren't scared to get into the ML's wires and can follow instructions then it's very doable. In this case, it's just a matter of what kind of a budget you have. Remote start systems can cost from $50 - $400. Pretty good ones are Autopage RS7xx models (up to $150), Viper 5701 and 5901 models (up to $200)...these systems have VERY long range and are all Remote Start+Alarm+Keyless Entry combo systems.
AdvancedKeys is another system and it's a keyless go with pushstart button system...which means you can leave your ML key at home. This gives you up-to-date technology like in newer vehicles (Lock/Unlock/Start engine with the remote still in your pocket/purse).

Viper 5901: $200
DEI 556UW: $40
Spare key: $80 (?)
Install Supplies: $20

Total: $340

Add-On's (optional)
Glass break / tilt / promixity / other sensors: $40 - $100.

Labor: Free if DIY.

Is it possible to take out the transponder chip out of the keyfob and glue it to the sensor ring and use it without the bypass?
what wires you connect to ML's immobilizer antenna wire, and what colors on the plugs are they on the aam? Trying to install a starter, everything works but it doesn't start, even if i have the key in the ignition, wonder why?!
