Turn Signal Issue

Turn Signal Issue
I just bought a 2002 ML320. The left turn signal works fine except when the brake is engaged or the lights are on. In that case, the rear signal light stops working but the red lamps start to flash. Inside the car, the clicking that you normally hear when the turn signal is on doesn't click.
Can this be fixed by replacing the rear turn signal bulb? Or is there a bigger issue?

I have replaced bulbs and am still having issues. The top bulb fits loose in its socket, so I am thinking there might be a short inside the socket unit. I am hoping that I can purchase just that socket unit at a decent price.

Another issue found...
Well, having driven my new-to-me 2002 ML320 a bit more, I have discovered another issue that I think is related to this... whenever I have the cruise control set and I hit the left turn signal, it disengages the cruise control. It only happens when the turn signal arm is pressed down to turn on the left signal.
Any ideas?

Thanks, Maj. Dundee, for your guidance. I was unable to find just a replacement socket anywhere, so I decided to replace the entire tail light assembly. I got an absolutely terrific deal for a pair of Anzo LED tail light assembles from Amazon for $105! I installed them today... they look terrific and all my issues are gone!
