Hi all,

Did you get the resynch procedure out of your owner's manual? Because the ones you read on the internet are mostly wrong. (Unless it's from a manual downloaded from MB)

Have both of the keys been in working order before? Did they both stop working at the same time?

Thanks for the reply
And i got the procedure from the online manual. But i got the truck 2 months ago and both the keys didnt work. I just hate using the key to open and close the door. So if there any way or if you know any other link for the Resync or if it is the AAM that needs to b replaced?
Thanks for help

There's a very good chance that when the previous owner(s) purchased those keys that they never had the dealer perform the initial keyless entry pairing of the keys to the AAM.

It could be new keys, or a new AAM that wasn't programmed to the old keys. Either way, you need to visit a dealer or indie mechanic with Star Diagnosis to get it sorted. If you're sure that the batteries, terminals, connections and synch procedures are all good, then you can't fix this yourself.

It could also be a fault or bad connection with the remote locking antenna.

Did the previous owner explain why both keys didn't work? You should have asked him.

if i order a new key from the dealer will i still need it programned, i read some where that they order keys specific to the vin so it should work without going to the dealer.

Let's make sure everybody is on the same page before we continue so nobody is confused.
There are 2 systems: DAS (Drive Authorization System) and EAS (Entry Authorization System).

The DAS is responsible for starting of the engine.
Components include: AAM, DAS module, Engine Controls, Transponder Coil, RFID Immobilizer Chip, etc..

The EAS is responsible for the Keyless Entry part (Lock/Unlock/Panic).
Components include: AAM (also the antenna attached), Door-lock actuators/microswitches, etc...

So, when you place an order for new key(s) with provided legal documentations and VIN, a RFID Immobilizer Chip is inserted inside the key handle (for spare keys) or inside the key fob remote control (for switchblade w/ lock unlock panic keys) AND programmed. This means that your new key(s) will be able to start the engine upon arrival, without having the dealer do anything.

If, a switchblade key is ordered (the one with Lock/Unlock/Panic remote buttons) then the Dealer needs to program the Lock/Unlock/Panic functions to the EAS. In other words, the switchblade key fob arrives DAS ready BUT not EAS ready. You can start the engine but won't be able to use Lock/Unlock/Panic...until the Dealer programs Lock/Unlock/Panic to EAS. This is usually an extra $75 charge.

So answering your question:
For starting of engine, then No, you don't need it programmed (b/c it's already programmed per mentioned above).
For Lock/Unlock/Panic, that's if you ordered a switchblade key, then Yes, the Dealer needs to program this particular function...if you'd like to use this function. (I didn't, because I have an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry installed.).
