Head light change from pre-facelift to facelift

Hi,

Being new to this great forum, I thought this might be the place to post my issue.

I have a 2000 ML 270 CDI. Since bying it earlier this year, I have wanted to change the head light units from the current pre-facelift to the facelift version. My lights are xenon and recognizing that the placement of parts (HRM computer amongst others) is somewhat different between the models, I am now wondering if is actually possible to change the light setup from the pre-facelift units to the face lift units.

Have anyone tried to fit the pre-facelift xenon lights to a facelift head light unit?

Many thanks in advance for any feedback you might have.

Hi. Yes it is possible. My Ml 320 is a 2000 model. I havent done the change myself, but when I both the car it had post facelift biXenons. So it is possible, and by what I see inside the hood you can easily do it without complications.

I have installed the Bi-Xenon Projector light fixtures in both my 98ML and my 05ML.
The 98ML only had one Brown Ground (Earth) lead and the new lights required 2 Brown Ground (Earth) leads. The company that I bought the light fixtures from supplied a 1 Brown to 2 Brown adapter plugs which also had the Low Beam and High beam wires in the correct plug locations. They are the White and Yellow leads.
The 05ML had the 2 Brown Ground (Earth) leads but the 2 Brown, White an Yellow wires were in different plug locations. I removed the light fixture plug, removed the wire contacts and re-located them into the correct locations.

The 98ML did not require any AAM programming but the 05ML required that the AAM's program be changed to "Xenon Present" setting. I don't know about your 2000ML but you stated that you already have Factory Xenon lights. If they are not OE Factory Xenons then AAM programming may be required but I'm not sure for your model.
Mike
[EDIT] I re-read your post. If you are trying to modify your existing prefacelift light fixtures to B-Xenon than that cannot be done. You must change the entire light fixture.

if you buy 2000 -2002 lights they will install perfectly, you will how ever have to change the wires in the plug because the projector light is the main light and the other is the high beam. thats what i did i got my oem on ebay for $60 bucks shipped. and they work great and make it look newer, now im looking for a 2002 bumper with the fog lights, that'll bring it up a couple of more years!
