Vehicle starts but will not run

Vehicle starts but will not run
I have a 2002 ML 320. I was checking out the EGR system to fix the P400 engine code and looking for broken or clogged hoses. I removed some hoses to check them and them replaced the hoses with the intent of buying news ones and them repairing the system later.
I them went to start the vehicle and it would start but would not run. It would rev up to 2500 rpm but would die. As though it was running out of gas. It sounded to me like a major vacuum leak????
Any suggestions?

You are not telling use what exactly did you do. You removed hoses & then what? Did you remove EGR tube? Did you remove EGR valve? What did you do?
Have you put the hoses in correct places? Are there no vacuum leaks? Have you connected the MAF? Are you sure you havent damaged the EGR valve?

Thanks for your reply. I removed the air filter and air plastic air duct and the MAF connection in order to get a better look at the engine block and EGR routing. I checked the two hoses that were disconnected a to make sure they were put into place. The only thing I noticed was that the vacuum hose on the drivers side valve cover was very hard and a small piece of hose was broken off of the end on the hose. I tried to make sure that the hose was connected all the way. I did not touch the EGR valve itself, thinking I would look at it when I replaced the hoses.

As you describe, the only "damage"you could have done is cracked the disconnected hoses. Plus you are mentioning about the cracked vacuum hose on the valve cover.
Why dont you replace the hoses?

I will order the hoses needed along with the EGR valve and the temp sensor related to the P0138 code that came along with the P0400 EGR code. Any suggestions on the best way to change the EGR valve and location of the sensor. I will let you know how it works out.
