Can I install the retrofit headlights myself

I want to purchase the 2002 ML headlights and install on a 2000 ML430, and I want to install them myself rather than the dealer doing it.

I read that you need to disconnect fuses to keep the airbags from going off. Is this true?

Also is their anything else i need to be aware of when installing the lights.

Thanks alot.....

You do not need to disconnect fuses for the airbags. You need to have the key out of the ignition, though.

You should be aware that the plug wiring for the 2000 headlights and the 2002 headlights is different. You will need an adapter or to change the wiring.

All the information needed you should be able to find doing a search here or on the net. If that is not enough information for you to feel comfortable performing this change, you should leave it to someone who is experienced with these upgrades.

It's quite easy. I did it on my '98. As mentioned above, fuse removal is not necessary, but be sure you get the right adapters. I ordered the lights from Performance Products, but ended up getting them from Bekkers Imports because PP was out of stock. Bekkers reduced the price on the adapters because they were far more than PP.

To remove the lights you pry the inner end of the trim strip under the light out, then carefully remove the other end. Rmove the two bolts under the light and one up under the hood (disengaging the tab in the slot), and the whole unit will slide out.

Might as well do the taillights, while you're at it.
