Transmission advice

Hi all, learned much reading about this trans but didnt see anyone asking this question. I recently purchased an 02 ml500 with 145k. Got a peek at the service history while in for an alignment and saw no trans fluid change history. Drain/fill Plugs appear unmolested. Was just going to go for it and follow the Mercedes flush procedure but am nervous about that being the right thing to do or if there is a different procedure someone with experience recommends since it's gone 145k without a change. Already have a case of shell atf 134 acquired from a local shell distributor for $70, last they had. I guess ill need a few more quarts if the consensus is to go for it.

Thanks in advance!
Chris

ok I found glyn's response from yesterday where he mentions full flush if not too oxidized which surely mine will be at 145k...what to do?

Are there DIY procedures for a trans flush here? Thanks and good luck with yours!

Thanks for that. I'm in the research phase of a trans service. Not sure either on the exact model of transmission ('03 ML500 - 85K 'trans never touched probably'). Starting to do my homework which has me contemplating merits of a 'BG flush' vs pan drop, drain, and filter (along the lines of that PDF). I'd imagine that's probably a debatable subject. <shrug>.

Anyhow - thanks again!
