Fuel Filter

I own a 2000 ML430 have over 70K miles, and fuel filter service is coming up. I was told that we had to replace it with a new fuel filter that had a built in regulator. I was like "OK". I asked how much that would cost, and he quoted me a price of some where around $350 parts. I guess the new filter would have to change the whole fuel line totaling 3 lines, and 1 filter.
My question is shouldn't this be covered under mercedes warranty because obviously they found something wrong with the old filters, and thats why they have came out with a new setup.
I'd hate to pay that much to replace the filter, and is there an alternative like finding the old style fuel filters from some one else?
