ML270 diesel bleed valve leaking...HELP please

Please help. I have a strange looking T at the top of my engine and it is the end of a diesel line (it does not circulate). It is fed from a T junction in the diesel pipe between the low to high pressure pump. This valve/ bleed thing is broken and leaking diesel. I need to know what it does and can I just cap it off? Many thanks in advance for your input.

Hi , only just joined and saw your post so sorry for a late reply ( you are probably already sorted) but yes you can blank off that pipe. I'm not entirely sure what it is for ( I think its a fuel bleed valve. But isn't required for the vehicle to run.
I snapped mine at the t piece when replacing my thermostat ( very common during this procedure) and had to temporarily bypass that branch with a hose and jubilee clips bridging the hole just leaving a straight through feed from the low pressure pump to the high pressure pump with the branch you are talking about completely disconnected and the car fired up (After a fair bit of cranking) and ran fine for a week before I could buy a proper replacement ( the replacement is a full moulded 3 ended piece with the T piece.

Hope this helps even if it is a little late.

Never posted any pictures before so here goes:

Assuming it works there are pictures of the T piece and the bleed branch when installed on the vehicle, along with pictures of the temporary bypass mod to get the car going after the T was broken during the thermostat change (note this mod could be done better with a straight through adapted and fuel hose but this is all I had at the time.

There are also pictures of the fully molded replacement part (with the part number shown on the bag, and also a picture of the hose retaining clips for under the highpressure pump- worth getting a couple of these before changing the hose as they get brittle and the clip snaps- these are essential to keep the fuel pipes from fouling on the auxiliary belt - only 3 or 4 mm clearance even with the clips.

Hope this works and helps.

Thanks for the clarification, I did wonder if it was for file pressure measurement, but thought it may be a bleed branch.
Pressure measurement point makes perfect sense.
Thanks.
