So my radio works fine (powers on, controls work normally) but the audio has stopped working all of a sudden. I suspect the amplifier has died. I scoured the web for the location of the amp for a 2004 ML500 and I'm still not exactly sure if it's under the driver front seat (US car) or where this thread says. If this thread is accurate, can you provide any more details for me? Such as, is it behind anything else? Like some padding or barrier material or anything? Or how many cable harness go into it? Anything else descriptive would help. Thanks so much.
Look up.... way up....
on the left side of the amp, the connector and harness for all the speakers.
on the right, IF you have FO, one connection.
I recently bought a 2005 ML350 to replace a 2003 Suburban that my son totaled, but I was able to salvage the JVC double din receiver similar to yours. Your posting on how to install it was very interesting to me as I have been told by Crutchfield that I will have trouble with the existing wiring harness, "better to bypass and install a different speaker systems". Your posting gives me hope as I want to use the existing Bose speakers because they work fine and sound good to me.
The problem I'm having is the link you provided for the "163 double din dash kit" is not coming up with anything onlinw and so I'm asking you to check it and let me know if there was a typo somehow in the link? Thanks for your reply and if it's more convenient for you I'm providing my email address: joetipton@hotmail.com Thanks,
Were you able to open the link provided by w163benz for the double din dask kit on eBay? I have tried that link and get no results. I have a similar JVC receiver that I want to replace the factory unit in my 2005 ML350, so his posting instructions were otherwise very helpful, did you have success? Thank,

Joe,
Look on the crutchfield website.
A double din kit (pretty much anyone) for a mercedes will work and fit nicely.
More than likely, you will need to do some dremel cutting and shaving (of the center console opening) for a smoother not-to-tight fitment, as there are 2 "ears" on each side (for our 02 w163 anyways) that are in the way of the DD kit.
I noticed the fine finish your replacement unit has. I can’t even come close to that using the “universal” cage and ring Crutchfield provided. How’d you manage that if you don’t mind me asking? I’d love mine to look like that.

Either you have the incorrect double din kit or it's installation and placement is wrong. It looks like your double din unit has been installed a tad too low in the metal trim kit opening (based on how your trim kit is fitting).
Are you sure the new double din unit is mounted correctly onto the metal trim plate that goes into the opening?
The metal kit edges (shown with arrow) shouldnt be exposed as shown in your photo.
I responded to this but don’t see it here. Anyway, yes, it can move up to be vertically centered dust the bevel still falls short of covering the whole opening as yours does.
I have a 2004 ML 350 with bose, no navigation. The radio will turn on but I have no sound coming from the speakers. I took the car to an audio place and they quoted me $2700 to fix my issue-- this would be a new amp, new speakers, everything. I just wanted a new stereo installed. I called a dealer and it's $200 to diagnose my issue, but the guy said he can tell me my amp is probably dead. I installed a new OCC transceiver chip, hoping that would fix the issue, but no luck.
If I were to follow this installation process to put an entire new audio system into the car, would the sound come back? I would install a new stereo unit and amplifier myself.

Do you have FO or non-FO Bose system?
Either way. You can DIY

Yes, it is a FO system. When you unplug the optic cable the port is supposed to flash red 4 times, but that doesn't happen with my unit. Does this mean the FO may be an issue?

Could possibly be.
All your signals go thru the FO.
I presume your system has the "acoustimass bass module" (aka wannabe subwoofer) under the front DS seat ?
I would first check the FO connections (plug and unplug) to test. It could be a simple as a bad connection, or there is a FO break elsewhere.
IF there is a break, you're sol.
The +ve side of this IS, if you're able to solder and wire, you can bypass the FO with a replacement DD HU with all the bells and whistles inexpensively and w/o replacing the Bose speakers (but you would have to bypass the 'pretend subwoofer')
And you still get a great system with ALL the B&Ws you want.
Many of done this changeover...myself included.
No need to pay $$$$ to someone else, for your hard earned $$.

Your fiber optic is bad or your oem stereo is toast.
For $2700 ill come to you from Cleveland ohio and install you a nice Kenwood Stereo and ill make ton of $$ on you. The people you went to must be tested positive for Stupid!!!
Get yourself a nice bluetooth Kenwood or Pioneer unit fallow this post from the start install your own. You would need a faceplate runs about $19 stereo will cost about $200 to $300 and few hours of work.
I did about 4 of my Ml cars took me about 2 hours. Love it now, sounds amazing, bluetooth touch screen. Good luck!
On my '04 Ml350 I just bought I have the SRS light on for the Tele-aid module communication error. The module is not under the passenger seat but the harnesses are there, so I assume the previous owner removed them when they put in an aftermarket stereo. My question is: Can I just go buy the tele-aid module from a junkyard and plug it in to the harness to get rid of the SRS light, or would it have to be programmed to my vehicle?
Normally I would have it coded out using STAR, but the dealer wants $150 minimum for that, with no guarantee they will be able to do it. SImilar modules go for around $40 on ebay.
any possible issues arising from wiring a stereo wrong?
this is an old thread and I've been here before when i was trying to install an aftermarket unit, it was confusing trying to connect the units harness to the vehicles. I was able to get the unit to turn on, radio, aux, usb connects unit to my android cell, unit led colors adjust to personal preference, sub connection works, reverse camera works.
videos from sd card however play but will stop when not in park, and I still have wires left over from the unit. the unit is compatible with steering controls not connected yet, and when I start connecting a class d amp i dont want any issues with shorting my system or causing the vehicle to malfunction due to conflicting wiring. Also i noticed digital amplifier fuse holders and i was wondering it could probably be a good way to check the vehicle battery in the event the vehicle doesn't crank and cluster display are offline. Can we get members to revive this thread some to get a more up-to date tutorial on aftermarket stereo & amplifier intalls? thanks

If i am not mistaking the wire that responsible for the video i connected to ground wire. Then you can play the video anytime. good luck
here are some pics of my installation, thanks. my double din with a wire from speaker to sub connection on back of unit, for now until i connect amp. Note, sound however is really low due to no amp. back of unit unit display with optional wallpaper, and advertised as "a million color" option of adjusting the teal part of l.e.d. color, I chose teal or aqua.
some of the features of the unit. the back up camera, and the image can be manipulated by the settings to be darker, lighter, sharper, etc. The settings I use for the unit interface will also affect the reverse camera image, as you can see my settings give the image a blueish hue. now to the fun stuff, here are some wires from the vehicle not yet found a connection to. A pink, white, green, two blue's and a yellow. here is the harness connection to the unit. cd, brake detect, amplifier control, and steering control. these are not yet connected. four channels of speakers in this side of the harness that goes to the unit.
I've been trying to make the tv function work, ive bought an antenna with IEC connection but i realized the vehicle already has a connection installed that works. So i guess i need to get a digital TV reception box connected because i still can't get a signal.

Hello, I got my ML320 W163 and it currently has an old Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD (1 Din). I don’t have any experience with installation but my technician told me that he’ll help once I get the new one. I came across this thread and especially your posts cause these are rather new.
I m searching via AliExpress and trying to understand what I need to buy as some units seem to offer options (that sounds totally Chinese to me) like different power cables, CANBUS, Fiber Code etc. On top of that I contacted seller who stated that their unit is a fit but the power cable isn’t (I provided screenshots of my current unit) which confused me even more.
The unit I found is this one: US $157.44 18% Off | 7" Universal PX6 4G+64G 2Din Android 10 Car Multimedia Player Radio GPS Navigation TDA7850 Wireless Carplay DSP HDMI Auto Stereo https://a.aliexpress.com/_mMP4AnT
and I look forward to install several additions like BT, rear and front cameras, tv box etc.
Any help from any member would be highly appreciated!
I m based in the EU and my search on eBay about Kenwood DMX905S brings only offers of 649$ plus 55$ which is way beyond my budget.
If you can share a link of this unit at 250$ that would be great!
Also, my front interior is the same as you post here for the ML350. At least my interior, don’t know about other years). Are there any other cable differentiations between models so I need to check only the ml320 w163 area?
