03 ML 430 722.6 trans problem
I replaces conductor plate, filter, socket and cleared all related codes in trans, DME, shifter. Did a gas pedal trans relearn. I still have the same problem. With everything cleared, the shifter works great from start until I get to my first stop. The transmission does not down shift. When I start off gain it's in 3rd or 4th gear and wont shift to over drive unless I let off the gas and shift to neutral count to 2 then back in drive. Sometimes it will down shift and up shift on highway and sometimes not. I have a Autel diagnostic device. I looked at live data of the shifter module. Before I would test drive I can see that I can select gears and go up and down with the left and right movement but after driving up until the first stop the shifter worked. After stopping the check engine light comes on and it goes in limp mode. codes are. DME P2069 mil ON&Stored fault is stored in component N15/3[ETC{EGS} control unit] (P0730), Transmission codes 51 stored The gear is implausible or the transmission is slipping and 147 stored the gear is sporadically implausible or the transmission slips sporadically. Now the history is recently I had the front diff replaced and then the trans locking motor replaced to. After reading the diagnostic manual to 722.6 transmission it mentioned about wrong rear axle gear ratio could cause that but what about the front axle. not sure how good the mechanics were at the last shop? Any input? when I accelerate hard I don't feel a slippage. one time the trans down shifted unexpectedly and about put me throw the window.

I will try to help you but a few things must be cleared up.
1. there is no 2003 ML 430. It either an earlier year or it's a 2003 320 or 350. Whatever it is please change your profile to the correct veh.
2. why did you change the front differential? It could be the wrong one and this is causing all of your problems.

01 ML 430 trans shifting poblem
replaces conductor plate, filter, socket and cleared all related codes in trans, DME, shifter. Did a gas pedal trans relearn. I still have the same problem. With everything cleared, the shifter works great from start to 3rd gear. Once 4th gear engages the check engine light comes on and trans won't down shift and stay in 4 gear until I clear codes. When I start off again in 4th gear the trans wont shift to over drive unless I let off the gas and shift to neutral count to 2 then back in drive. Sometimes it will down shift to 5th and up shift to overdrive on highway and sometimes not. I have a Autel diagnostic device. I looked at live data of the shifter module. Before I would test drive I can see that I can select gears and go up and down with the left and right movement but after driving up and down from 3rd gear selected, auto shifts fine until I put it in 4th gear then no more down shifts. codes appear are. Now the history is recently I had the front diff replaced because of a cracked case and then the transfer locking motor replaced to. After reading the diagnostic manual to 722.6 transmission it mentioned about wrong rear axle gear ratio could cause that but what about the front axle. not sure how good the mechanics were at the last shop? Any input? when I accelerate hard I don't feel a slippage. one time the trans down shifted unexpectedly and about put me throw the window. edit to day 6 jan 2015. I tested ETC and harness for voltage and ohms, according to factory spects everything looked ok but I decided to do a different test after seeming how the ETC works. At plug connector of ETC # 38 is a constant 12 volt to the shift solenoids,# 15 is 3-4 solenoid ground command, while driving I noticed that the value of flickered when gears changed and an average volt value was .54v in each gear but when 4th gear was engaged it read .009v's. So I'm going to switch 2-3 solenoid with 3-4 solenoid. and test. If it effects the shifting different then I would replace the bad one , if not then I'm looking at ETC being the problem. [/QUOTE]

What I am trying to tell you as per the description of code P2069 is that the gear ratio is very important.
You must be absolutely sure that the used front diff. you bought is a 3.46 ratio and not a 3.70 ratio. which is for a 6 cyl. Look at the tag on the front diff.
