02 ml320 battery indicator comes on briefly
Hi, My Ml320 (2002) 132k mi. Recently the battery indicator light came on briefly then went out. It's been very cold here could there be a correlation? If not does any one have any idea what would cause this?

How old is the battery.
Snow blowing in thru the front of the car could deposit snow on the drivebelt which could cause some slippage.
Extreme cold is a killer on a weak/old battery. Car starts but the charging system takes a beating trying to recharge and run the car at the same time.

With a DVOM measure the battery. When the car is off the battery should be more or less 12,5v. When the car on it should be around 13,8 to 14,2v.
If the voltage is less when the car is on then you might have a charging issue. It could be the regulator is on its way.

Always check the voltage after the car has sat for a few hours, overnight is best.
12.5volts is approx. 80 percent charged
12.6v-12.8 is what shows you 100 percent charged
14.1V-14.3V is max for a good charging system with engine running
If you raise the idle and the voltage climbs also ( 14.4v- 15 or 16V) then voltage regulator is toast
When you start to turn on accessories like lights, heater fan, or ac, rear defroster any current draws and you see the voltage dip down past 13.8V the alternator is in question.
Hope this helps.
