2001 ML320 aux input or replacement of head unit?
I have a 2001 ML320 with the screen type of stereo unit. I'd like to hook my Ipod up to the system though, and not through the tape adapter as it makes it sound bad.
I haven't yet found a hack to either put an aux input on the CD changer input, or put an aux input into the head unit itself.
If none exists, what kind of head unit replacement would be good? I don't have the nav system, but getting one with GPS, aux input, etc might be nice.
Any input? I'm leasing this beast of a machine until December when I'm going to buy it out.

2002 ML320
The MCS unit in the ML, unlike the COMAND system used in all other Mercedes, unfortunately does not have an auxiliary input.
There are places that will modify the MCS to take a video input (at prices around $1200) but even then, they can't do anything about the audio (they say to use an FM modulator, which is not very good quality-wise).
So you'll have to replace the MCS if you want an aux input without a cassette adapter or FM modulator.
Any double-DIN sized head unit with compatible wiring should work, although you'll lose use of the stock CD changer if you have it - because it connects to the MCS via Mercedes' fiber-optic audio system.

Figured as much. I'm not concerned about the CD changer, as I don't use it. I just hook the ipod up to a tape adapter and use that, but its a bit noisy.
Double DIN head units would work? I'll have to look for some good ones.
