2000 ML320 Brakes

I am going to replace my rear brakes and was wondering if anyone knows what types of upgrades are avaiable? I have 48,000 miles so.....not to bad. I replaced my front at 46,000.

Thanks in advance

You have a MY02 320 and with ABS, BAS

and ESP, may I ask why you'd want to upgrade? The ML brakes are pretty good. The only upgrade I can think of that's cheap (given space under there) is to switch toslotted drilled rotors. But why? Another upgrade will be to move to the AMG brake hardware. I believe that will fit only if you also upgrade the rims to 17's or more. But why would you want to do this (other than just for fun)?

I'm surprised that you got 46K miles from your front brakes. Are these highway miles?

On my 2000 ml320, at less than 24K miles (I think when I went for my first B service), my service rep recommended changing all the rotors and all the pads which is a $800 job. The warning light didn't turn on but visually it was very close to replacing them. What surprised me was that they had to change all the rotors which is really unheard of. This is my first MB and I've never changed all rotors in any of my previous cars all at the same time. It really makes me think that they did a number on me.

That brings up a question...

I am at 70,000 miles on my ML320 and have gone through 2 sets of front brake pads and one set of rear pads but never the rotors.

I am told, I am up for pads again...now the question is...should I replace the rotors at 70K miles...or leave them as is? I have no complains from the rotors as such...no squeals...even my pad life has been as expected so far...so obviously my rotors have no defect in them, except for the 70K mile usage..

And, I am not into upgrades..am happy with my stock MB rotors and pads.

What is the recommended timeframe for rotor replacement, if any?

The minimum thickness is stamped on the rotor.

When you're getting close, and doing a pad change, then it's time for new rotors.

Rotors are cheap.

Yes!! Most of the miles were highway miles. However, I guess that in retrospect, I've been pretty lucky with brake wear.

After consideration, I'm thinking about replacement with stock parts. Just need to find a mail order shop to keep the price down.

Thanks
