07 ML-350 upper oil pan leaking

I bought the car three months ago. Noticed the oil slowly leaks on the garage floor. It did not bother me until the "oil level low" message popped up.
I have the car checked out by a dealer, and was told the upper oil pan leaks, which will cost about $800 to fix it.

I am hoping you can give me suggestions for the followings.

1. Do I have to have it fixed since the leaking is not significant and only one quart of engine oil is required to be added for every 3000 miles?
2. If it has to be fixed, is it reliable to to hire private mechanics instead of dealers to fix it?

Thank you!
