Why does MB mandate service @ dealership?
Recently discovered that valve #4 is bad; not parts within valve, yet port itself, vehicle only has 100K on it. Contacted MB with diagnosis and they are telling me the vehicle MUST be taken to a MB dealership for diagnosis before they will assist me. Curious to know WHY the vehicle has to be checked by a mechanic at a MB dealership service center? Don't they trust the diagnosis from a MB Certified shop/mechanic?

Out Of Control!!
I think you are making much todo about nothing---you say "from a MB Certified shop\mechanic" why are you going to an MB dealer as you believe the MB Certified mechanic is MB----if that is what you believe fix the car and get on with your life!!

Thank you for your lack of insight! I did have the vehicle checked by a MB certified mechanic at his shop as stated. The mechanic told me the problem was due to faulty manufacturing, therefore I contacted MB USA to be compensated for bad engineering, a bad valve bore. MB USA "mandates" the vehicle be taken to a MB dealership for yet another diagnosis. So again the question is, "Why do I have to have a second diagnosis by ONLY a service tech at a dealership?" Doesn't MB recognize a MB Certified Shop diagnosis?

There are no "MB certified shops" other than dealerships. Period. If there were, well, they would be a dealership right? What you are referring to is a "independent" shop.

It's their money. They want to know why they are spending it. What would you do if your owned MB? Just go ahead and do whatever some flunky backyard has-been says?
