98 ML320 Rear hatch won't open
Hello,
Troubleshooting a few things with door locks that seem to be a common problem pointing to the AAM, but going to ignore that for now...My main concern is that I can't open the rear hatch at all. The key fob doesn't seem to work at all, I have tried re-syncing but no luck. The doors all lock, unlock and lock again once I start driving, and sometimes randomly. I would like to open the rear hatch and check the actuator or see if anything has just come disconnected, but I can't get it to open no matter what I try. The inside and outside handles pull with no resistance whatsoever, so I'm guessing either a piece in the actuator broke or some piece down the line is disconnected. Any ideas on how to open the hatch to even get a look at it??
Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the diagrams, I'll check it out after work...when I looked at it I thought it had to be open to get the liner off, at least without breaking it. Def worth a shot!

Turns out the liner didn't need to come off, just the plastic handle. The fact that the locks aren't working is the real problem, but the plastic handle on the hatch also didn't seem to be moving the lock selector. Manually pushing this to the right lets me open it...I just have to keep a stick in the back to unlock it every time .
Thanks!
Thanks!
