dealers and brakes

hey all,
just something came back to my mind about our ML brakes.

we brought it in for service B at 50k miles. My SA said that the front brakes needed to be done (pads and rotors) ~$700. I told him to hold off, as the braking felt fine and no squeeling. He said that it would last about 1500 more miles on them, 3000 MAX. The light would come on soon for the pads.

Well, it's at 59,000 miles now and brakes are still great, stops like a champ. So it has gone 9000 miles on the same brakes after the service still with no squeeling...why would they tell me that it's only gonna last me 3000 more miles before the light comes on. I'm guessing they're just trying to cover their @$$ so if I did come back and say "u didn't tell me my brakes were in need of replacing" or they just tryin' to make more money...

Trying to make money...

They were hoping they'd make a quick buck at 50k, then by 59k, you'd "need new brakes again" there were several reports of MLs "eating" brakes every 8k miles....

We've had these brakes replaced about 3 times now since we bought the thing. Front at 22k, rear at 22k, rear at 40k...rolleyes:

I'm not even sure if it was necessary at those times....i'm bringing in the ML tomorrow for the stupid fuel sender thing (miracally, it fixed it self yesterday while filling up, but gonna have it checked anyway, who knows if it's going to fail again) and see what they say the condition of the brakes are.

Agree - dealer brake job = cash cow...

and they like to do the brakes as early and as frequently as possible.

Of course this is for safety reasons and to avoid the trouble of an un-scheduled service visit - all part of the MB experience, designed to lighten your wallet ;-)
