VC Gaskets and ventilation chamber 101

I'm planning on removing my Valve Covers soon for new gaskets.
Also, I want to reseal the ventilation chambers and install a new oil fill
standpipe. I have already purchased factory new MB valve cover gaskets
and new standpipe.

I have a few questions:
What is the best sealant for sealing the ventilation chambers?
Is there any need to use sealant on the VC gaskets?
Should I reseal the vent chambers on the car or on the work bench?

Can I repaint or powder coat the valve covers?
What color was the original?
Are these covers made from magnesium?

That should be enough questions for one posting 😀

1. What is the best sealant for sealing the ventilation chambers? Loctite 5970.
2. Is there any need to use sealant on the VC gaskets? No.

3. Should I reseal the vent chambers on the car or on the work bench? Remove them on the car (DO NOT PRY or they will break) and reassemble off the car.

4. Can I repaint or powder coat the valve covers? If you wish.

5. What color was the original? A dull silver.

6. Are these covers made from magnesium? Yes and they break easily.

Thank you so much.
Is 50ml tube enough for both chambers?

Buy one and see if it is enough for one side or both. You can always do the other side another time.

You are supposed to bead the sealant, not smear/spread it on.

Also know that if you break one of the chambers, you will have to buy the entire valve cover, as the chambers are not sold separately.
