Is there someone who got the problem with the noise in the corner of the dashboard fixed?
What did you, or your workshop, do for this?

ML noise right corner dashboard
Dear MBtech208,
We've already been driving ML's without engine cover (if that is the proper word) and without right wheel cover (same comment)and so on. Everytime the noise has dissapeared. From the moment we put everything together it comes back. A few times it came back after a couple of days. DaimlerChrysler AG (Germany) is still investigating and making a document for all dealers for "systematic ML-noise troubleshooting". DC Belgium (where I live) is investigating too, but we cannot let our customers wait any longer.
Thans for your advice.

Is it an interior noise or an exterior noise? I thought it was an interior noise because you say it's in the right corner of the dash. But if you've been driving with the engine cover and right wheelwell liner removed (not that they're related), it leads me to believe it's an outside noise. It could be anything really, it's hard to diagnose a noise when I can't hear it.

ml noise right corner dashboard
I had this noise and may have gotten it fixed (I hope). However, I had to get the regional rep. involved to get action since the dealer was not doing much. He said that the vent cowling beneath the windshield rested on a footing that showed shiny movement and wear. They secured this and tightened the cowling much more securely. So far, I don't hear the noise but it has only been one week. I am hoping because it was a seriously loud (at times) and annoying noise.

That's what I mean: whatever you do, it comes back everytime. Sometimes after a week, sometimes after a day or two.
We could fix some ML's, e.g. "wheelwell liners" not tightened, but for others we are still looking while waiting for DaimlerChrysler AG (Germany) who are still investigating and making a document for all dealers for "systematic ML-noise troubleshooting".
What is the "vent cowling" (I am not English-speaking), the housing of the blower for the heating?

Vent cowling may not be the right word. The plastic (?) piece butted against the windshield right at the end of the hood. The wipers sit in them. I assume it is the entry for air ventilation?

Can you post a picture of the area causing the problem? I have every-so-often (nothing that i really worry about) problems with noise in my 2001 ML320, and I'm wondering if it's due to a similar reason.

I don't know if it is the problem. Seems to me it is in the dash itself. It sounds like a flutter which can get very loud. Like a styrofoam container but plastic or vinyl. It seems to be in sinc with the vehicle movement.

I am fairly confident that it is either:
1. The little rubber trim piece between the plastic air vent and the windshield (on the OUTSIDE)
2. The "hook" that holds that plastic air vent to the car - it clips under the bottom edge of the windshield.
I placed a 1 foot long piece of cash register receipt paper between the windshield and the rubber trim just under the passenger windshield wiper and the noise pretty much dissappeared - don't know if just "molesting" things to get the paper in there fixed it, or if the paper indeed gets between the squeaky rubber and the glass and lets them "slip" without actually making noise.
I'm pretty sure the noise is on the outside and is transmitting through the windshield to the inside.

You could be right. that is what they were messing with on mine last week. However, I have heard the noise lightly since then. My vehicle is a 2001 ML320 by the way.

Dashboard squeak fix maybe
I stopped my squeak by running the MB ignition key down the bottom inside edge of the windscreen so that it runs between the foam packing and the windscreen glass.
If it starts up again, I am going to put some silcon lubricant between the glass and packing using a kitchen knife (blunt edge)
I don't know if this is of any help to anyone else
