looking to add a aftermarket antenna to 02 ML 500

I'm putting a new aftermarket headunit antenna to my 02 ML 500. I want to put a Fin antenna on the top and run it to my aftermarket headunit. The problem is, will I get good or great reception with this antenna. I'm planning on connecting an antenna booster to help with the reception. Any suggestions will help.

AM & FM reception is already built into the Tailgate Glass. The roof antenna A2/49 in for CTEL & GPS, which no one uses any longer.

the 2002 ML500 antenna is mounted horizontally behind the rear bumper and runs the width of the vehicle. If you have poor reception open the panel on the righ side( where the CD changer is located and check the coax connection.

The antenna you are referring to is the Back-Up Antenna for the E-Call system and has nothing to do with radio reception.

I stand corrected!!
Due to a backing accident I removed the rear bumper. I then searched the part number stamped on the modules and the result was "Antenna and radio" Thank you for the clarification

Thanks to all for the info on radio reception. I'll give it a try tomorrow after work.
