Instrument Cluster Malfunction

This is my cousin's ML 2001. He called me earlier and told me his IC needles are not working. His mileage works fine and lighting is fine too. I'm not familiar with the ML line, could someone point me to the most probably cause. Could it be a fuse issue, and where are the fuses located? What other model year IC would work on this 2001? Any special tools to remove IC?

Thanks!

There are too many variations for Inst. Clusters.

Remove the I.C., very easy, no need to remove steering wheel, and copy down the part # in the paper tag, 163 xxx xx xx and post back with results.

I don't have access to car now. Cousin is coming over on Saturday. He just sent me a picture showing only fuel indicator/needle is not working. Does that make it any clearer?

OK, I think I found the answer, the fuse for the IC needs to be reset; pulled out and put back in. Here's a great video that shows this. Will have to try it out when he stops by.

Instrument Cluster problems are difficult to diagnose without a M/B Scanner.

I posted that PDF years ago, but it is not for what your problem is. You are also forgetting about the problem with the speedometer.
