ML Fuel Gauge PART 2

Just got my ML back from MB for its monthly warranty visit!! As we all know there are a few problems with the Fuel system on the ML. Well basically they have now (on previous visits) replaced the gauge, sender unit, sensors EVERYTHING except the fuel tank! So what more could they do? Well they managed to change something else-- The program in the computer. From what I can understand from the guy, the fuel unit is designed to move in stages, like a second hand on a watch- stop start, and not a smooth movement like the rev counter is ( does this make sense). So they have reprogramed the system via the computer so now the gauge "should" move as the fuel is used and not wait for the fuel level to drop by 5 litres before the gauge drops again. They have had to do this on other MLs (and I thought this problem was unique on my car!! ha ha)
So there we have it for now. Stay tuned for next months warranty visit!!!!!!

That does make sense. Mine will go down to almost empty and come back up to a 1/4 of a tank. It is more acurate on the highway. Takes only 13 gallons to fill it up in the city, but takes 19 after running on the highway. I don't think anyone really knows how big the gas tank is. It says it 23 something gallons on my 03 500. That ain't right,

2003 ML320
I just got 20 gallons in our 2003 ML320. Tank is supposed to be 22.x gallons. They incrased it from the 17 of previous years. I don't know what year however. I'd GUESS 2002, but can't be sure.
