Nerf Bars
I'd like to add nerf bars (side bars, whatever they are called) to my ML430. I went to a Mercedes dismantler and he was $300, but I see them online new from several retailers for under $100. Any thoughts on the quality of these cheap nerf bars? I'd rather have OEM, but the one used pair I could find on craigslist for $150 is about a two hour drive from me.

I think that cheap nerf bars are made from lower-grade steel using less thickness compared to OEM ones, therefore they have less strength, corrosion resistance, and durability. They're cheap for a reason, and it's not because the OEM manufacturers were charging outrageous margins.
In fact, the OEM makers Oris Automotive Parts went bankrupt in March 2006. http://www.autonews.com/article/2006...for-chapter-11 In other words, you can't buy brand new OEM nerf bars anymore.
You get what you pay for.
