Nerf Bars

I'd like to add nerf bars (side bars, whatever they are called) to my ML430. I went to a Mercedes dismantler and he was $300, but I see them online new from several retailers for under $100. Any thoughts on the quality of these cheap nerf bars? I'd rather have OEM, but the one used pair I could find on craigslist for $150 is about a two hour drive from me.

I think that cheap nerf bars are made from lower-grade steel using less thickness compared to OEM ones, therefore they have less strength, corrosion resistance, and durability. They're cheap for a reason, and it's not because the OEM manufacturers were charging outrageous margins.

In fact, the OEM makers Oris Automotive Parts went bankrupt in March 2006. http://www.autonews.com/article/2006...for-chapter-11 In other words, you can't buy brand new OEM nerf bars anymore.

You get what you pay for.

Try to check out Aries nerf bars particularly their 3" round side bars. These steps will fit on ML430’s. Other options are Raptors and Onki.

I'm looking for running board (more flat than round) type Nerf Bars for my 04 ML350.
