99 ml 430 ignition sticking & truck not starting from security shut off
My wifes 430 developed a no start problem one night, vehicle would turn over but not start (it seemed to turn over a little faster than usual) We let it set and I read where you could use the valet key to start it. We went back later and it started so I thought the key with the remote need to be replaced. Well a couple of days later, the valet key had the same results. Now all the time, the key switch itself is exhibiting harder turns and sticking. I'm not sure of this is just a classic need to replace the key switch and or the AAS/Induction ring. I'm totally convinced it needs a new key switch but not sure about the other. If we let the vehicle sit and come back later, it will start as though the computer has to reset the security system. I've seen used key switches and keys available to buy but I've also seen what seems to be a potential issue from using components from another vehicle.

Ignition lock barrel can be removed and cleaned, or do it in situ. Requires special tool to remove it.

I strongly urge you to get a new lock cylinder from a M/B dealer ASAP. The new cyl. will be coded to your present remote key and your valet key. So what you should do right now is to turn the key to pos. #1, leave it in that position and disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable until after the cyl. is installed.
The registered owner must appear at the dealer with registration, title and license and fill out a form. It will take approx. 5 days for the cyl. to be sent to the dealer, and the dealer might insist on installing it. Lie to him and state that the cyl. will only turn very little but cannot be started.
Again, if you do not turn the cyl. to pos. #1 NOW, you might not get another opportunity to do so.
