2000 ML320 Shifting Issues
Today my ML started having shifting issues. I drove the car and it shifted normally, then turned it off for about 3 hours.
When I restarted, the transmission would not shift out 1st gear, (even when I tried using manual mode), I pulled over and put the car in park, turned the engine off, and called AAA.
The car would not restart until the ignition switch was turned on and off 3 times, then the shifter would not move from park until the console release was pressed. I was then able to drive the car to a repair shop in 1st gear only.
At the repair shop the shifter would only go into neutral, and would not go into park, even using the console release, while the car was running.
After the car was shut off I was able to move the shifter into park, without using the console release.
The shop is very busy and indicated that it could take 2 hours or 3 days for them to get to it.
Could this be a brake switch issue, or ???

It could be anything, but did you check to see if your brake lights were working?
Now that you have left it with a mech., you will have to rely on him reading the codes. When he calls you make sure you get the code numbers from him and post back with those code numbers.
One thing he should check is the 13 pin conn.on the right side of the trans. Ask him to separate the conn. and see if there is fluid present.
