Air intake duct hose

Hallo

So I was just wondering what the function of the air intake duct hose is (part number A 163 505 00 61). It looks like it is designed to impede the airflow to the filter. Is that the case?

Where did you get that idea? Without it, how is air supposed to be delivered to the air filter and the engine?

I meant impede as in reduce/control, not block completely. I just thought that because it looks like you would get a lot more unrestricted airflow into the filter if you remove the duct, no?
