From what I see, its not the alarm thats the problem but the remote start. Then again why would you want to install an alarm system when you have a perfectly good one with lots of features already in the vehicle?? If you frequent an area that is that bad, I would rething where I drive!!

Flatbed Time :-(
On 98-01 models you need to hide a valet key in your dash using it to bypass the security system. Your OEM alarm will never work again. On 02+ models, you'd need to buy another key. Also, in either case the hidden key may lose it's memory. It has already happened to a few ML owners I know of. Then it's flatbed time!
I thought about doing this mod until I read all the stories about the problems that ML owners had and decided the mod $ was better spent elsewhere.

Yes, pretty much what Benza said. From what i've heard, you do need another key to bypass MB's system because the key and ignition work in sync with each other, the key sending a code/signal to the ignition's computer. Once it determines the key is correct, it'll let her start, if not, nope.
So pretty much, it's an expensive project, probably can be done, but may lead to problems in the future.

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
had it on my 98..til i sold it. just got it done on my 04 500. dont know the tech points but my performance guy did it no prob...alarm, remote start, windows express up/down... remote with the picture of car showing when on, door open, illegal entry...etc. its a seperate module remote with the factory key. i had him remove the key from the fob and sodder it to the new remote. looks hot. now i can just carry one remote.
