Stereo Question - Upgrading 99 Single Din
I've got the single DIN Bose with cassette in my 1999 ML430. I managed to find a non-fiber optic RA4910. To install, I know I need to cut away the frame below the stereo that holds the storage box. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how the RA4910 unit will stay in place. I bought a double din installation cage off of Amazon, but it's for AFTER MARKET double din units, and the RA4910 won't fit in it.
So, my question is, will the RA4910 simply stay put by connecting to the clips that held the single din unit in place? (The ones that you need to use the European stereo tools to disengage the stereo to remove it). Has anyone done this upgrade (putting an OEM head unit from a 2000 ML into a 1998 or 1999 ML? If so, is there a video somewhere? (Note again, I'm installing an OEM non-fiber optic RA4910 head unit into the spot where the old single din stereo and the small storage slot were).
