how to disable the alarm ??

here is the situation : i only have one key fob for my car.....so, i went to the dealer and go ( for a 100 dollars ) a new key ( has a chip but no dor oppening buttons ) and.......wanted to use it as a spare if i loose my fob ! BUT

it phisicaly opens the dors and then the alarm sounds, then if i unlock the doors with the FOB, the alarm shuts off and i can start the engine with one or the other key.....

here is my problem, i'm using the fob on a daily baisis ( convenient AND from quebec, so, ice and so , locks are often frozen solid ) but, yep, the spare key work but, IF if loose the FOB, i'm going to be able to open the doors, and then **** alarm is on forever adn the car does not start !!!!!

so, spare key is useless........cause IF needed, not more usefull then a rock. ( in windows )

dealer wont take the 100 dollars back

dealer says' 75 percent chance they can disable the alarm with star, could take up to 30 minutes ( at 130 plus tx the hour ) and there is no garanty that works.....and if does not work, still have to pay the time for the tech ( at 130 the hour ) AND still not refund the key.....

SO ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO KILL THE ****ING ALARM on that truck no one would ever steall ( it's 20 years old and rusty !! ) so i can still use my fob key and have the spare one starting the engine IF i loose the other one ?????

thanks you guys and girls !!!!!!

With all the typing you have done, you failed to let us know what year ML you have.

Disconnect the Alarm Horn on the firewall.

1998 ml320 with lift, dirt tires and rust !!!
98 !!! Sorry forgot.

But, thats not what i meant, disconecting the horn makes the car shut up, wont make it start.

If the alarm is on, the spare key is not going to start the car.

If i use the car on a regular basis, and lock the car with the fob, and loose the fob somewhere and never find it, i need the spare key ( thats in a drawer at home ) to replace it, open the car and start it......

Matt, if you are using the spare, you have to manually unlock the driver's door with it, open the door and put the key in the ignition and start the eng. At that point the alarm will stop.

Does it?

you know what, it does......i feel stupid for not having tryed it before.

horn was so annoying that i shut the alarm with the fob the few times i tried the new key !!

so probleme solved, will keep the key, keep the alarm and endure a few seconds off noise when using the spare key after locking the doors with the fob.

thanks everyone.
