Talking ML500 Potential Purchase

Hello, I am considering purchasing a 2003 ML500 which appears to be in GOOD shape for its age. It has 148k on it for mileage. I'm just wondering if there is anything I should specifically look for when test-driving this vehicle, or checking it out in person before forking over the cash. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

Sincerely,
Tim Peltier

Great truck, if it has no existing problems.

1) check the brake booster hissing issue that is common on these w163s. Could be an expensive labour fix if you not a diyer.

2) check for leakage below in the power steering box or the reservoir itself. Steering fluid leakage onto the serpentine belt means a belt replacement

3) water/moisture on the ds and/or passenger floor boards

4) subroof wind deflector clip breakage - easy fix if you're handy with sheet metal work

5) machine gun door locks

6) broken window actuators

7) check for bumper cracks /damage front and rear. These w163 bumper covers are imo fragile.

plenty of discussions on these on the forum.

If you're serious about the vehicle take it to a trusted indie shop or your local dealer and have a PPI done. They're well worth the money.
