They always have. In europe the ML version ML 270 CDI and ML 230 (gasoline) all have a stick shift as standard, the automatic gearbox is an optional extra.

I wonder how that works with ets and esp..?? Pretty cool though... I never understood why auto manufactures offer cooler options in other countries. Same thing with cell phones... !! Asia and Europe have some of the coolest gear.

Trust me, MB stick shifts suck!!!! The main reason for offering the stick shift is because the engines are smaller and a manual is cheaper and helps with the little engines, unlike in the US where you don't get these engine options.
Also mercs are seen as a luxury car, so why bother with a standard shift, like a ford or fiat for example.
The electronic stability controls are the same, as the control is via the ABS system and I think via the tranfer box ?????

One more thing, it might be cool to have a stick shift, but can you imagine a hill start with the ML handbreak??? I'l leave you to try and work out the foot work!

Well BMW offers alot more of their models in stick shift than Mercedes does.
I think it would be cool to have more Mercedes stick cars out there, it would widen their targeted market a little.
I still love MB, they're my favorite car company.
