Please identify the black box behind fuse/relay box
Hello,
After turning OFF and removing the key from ignition (on my '98 ML320), I hear a motor whining noise. This noise continues for about 3 minutes or so. The noise is coming from the black box that is immediately behind the fuse/relay box (in the engine compartment) on the drivers side.
Anyone know what that box is, what's that noise, or anyone have/had that problem?
Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions

This is no problem, its normal. What you hear is the E box cooling fan. In addition, the electrical coolant recirc pump wil run after a shut down.

I concur it just the air pump. It suppose to help with emission. Yes sometime it get on my nerve too. But its a common problem with the ML. Which to ML is VERY common...

Yes, I agree; it is a fan.
It's just annoying to hear the fan motor whining (albeit faint whine). When the garage is quite, you can hear it prominently.
I raised this question because I wasn't sure whether it's supposed to run even after ignition is off.
Has anyone tried to open that black box and may be oil
the fan motor or something like that (don't laugh)? ;-)
Thanks
