goodwill fuel sender?

hey all,

I think the fuel sender is a common problem on the ML's, yes or no? We've had our fuel sender replaced twice under warranty already and now I think it's acting up again (doesn't register gas, just sits at bottom with reserve light on)

Would MBUSA possibly goodwill a replacement since we've had it replaced twice already under warranty and it seems to be a common issue among the ML's? Or am I SOL?

Welcome to the club! Not only the fuel sender, sometimes the instrument cluster is at fault. Having eveything replaced on my ML, the last visit they re-programed the code. Basically the fuel gauge was coded to move like a second hand on a watch, so every 5 litres used (for example) the gauge would drop a little. Now it moves freely and moves everytime a decreased is picked up.

Strangely enough, noticed the guage was playing up again today!! not sure if I can be bothered to go back to MB. Lost the will to complain about it!!!

yeah, thats what my SA at my independent said, cluster is bad, at least the gas gauge portion of it is

they tested the fuel sender and it was sending just fine...$425 for the cluster.

ouch! Sorry to hear it. Not covered under an extended warranty (if you have one???) is it.

we didn't get the extended warranty...the only problem we had were the fuel senders. Everything else was kosher nothing broke down or failed (guess we got a good one, haha)

So far, our ML has been relatively good to us...hopefully it'll stay that way. Now we gotta figure out what to do with this gas gauge situation. For now, we're just keeping an eye on the mileage then filling up every 200 miles for safe measures. Last time the gauge popped back up and started working for a month then quit the other night

whens the last time the sender failed? cause i know they warranty a part thats been replaced previous for i believe a year. if not, let them know they didnt fix it the first two times, and there is a high chance theyll goodwill it.

hehe, thanks man.

BTW, the gauge came back to life last night

it did the same thing last time, went dead for a few days then came back. What could be casuing it to come back or go on and off? It feels like it wants a vacation from all the moving it does :p
