Instrument panel lights staying on

Hello all and thank you in advance for any advice.

Ive got a 1999 ML320. A few weeks ago when I turn the ignition off the light on the instrument panel go off but the lights at the bottom showing the miles stay on and will not cut off. I thought it might be a delay I wasn't aware of and didnt really pay attention to it until I didn't drive it for a few days and my battery ended up dead. Got the battery charged, drove it, cut it off and as before the instrument panel lights cut off but the odometer readings at the bottom stay on. I checked about 4 hours later and they were still on. Ive since resulted to disconnecting the battery when not driving to keep the battery from draining. Any advice on what it could be?

Plutoe, W163 MLs do not have an ignition module; simply an ignition switch,
