SOUND SYSTEM REPLACEMENT
I am interested in replacing the head unit in my 2002 ML500 (Bose system w/ CD changer).
The unit works fine however I want hands-free calling and a backup camera. The ability to play a audio CD/DVD would be nice but is not a must have.
What suggestions do you folks have ?
Thanks

I was thinking about doing this myself recently. But I was told that adding a new head unit would cancel out the amp and subwoofer that come with the Bose system. Have you been told the same?

Yes however the unit I am considering has both a sub wolfer output and built-in 4 channel amp.
I was hoping someone had replaced a factory Bose unit and had another suggestion.

Everything I've heard about replacing the factory head unit is a pain. The factory system speakers run on 2 OHMs instead of the 4 OHMs which most aftermarket head units put out. This will eventually blow out your speakers. Also the factory Amp uses Fiber Optic lines which aftermarket head units don't have. I have heard that they make piece that will allow you to still use your factory amp and sub with a new head unit but I haven't been able to find one. Just something to keep in mind.
